Racquella Laurel Parris entered the Business Graduates Association 2021 Case Competition and was a global finalist! She represented the Lok Jack GSB and Trinidad & Tobago proudly, as she competed against entries from around the world. In this interview she shares her insights about the Case Competition and her experiences studying at Lok Jack GSB.

- How did you hear about the Business Graduate Association Case Study Competition?
As a member of the Business Graduate Association, I received emails from the Association on a regular basis about events, webinars, articles, career development etc. One day I received an email concerning the BGA Future Leaders Case Competition and I started preparing my submission.
- Why did you enter the Business Graduate Association Case Study Competition?
My Dream Job is Consultancy, I felt entering this Competition was a great start to embodying the role of a consultant. This competition granted me with the opportunity to dissect organizational problems and recommend strategic, innovative and creative solutions.
- What were you required to do for the Case Study Competition?
There were two rounds of judging in this Competition.
Round One: I was required to submit a written submission, providing an analysis and producing a recommended business plan on the actions that Nespresso France should take over the next three years based on the information provided in the Case Study.
Round Two: I was required to deliver a short presentation to the judging panel via video link outlining my methodology and highlighting the key considerations in relation to sustainable business practices that I used throughout the submission to arrive at my solution. The Interview was for 20 minutes, 10 minutes for my presentation and the remaining 10 minutes for questions from the judging panel.
- What was your experience like, being part of the competition?
One word to describe my experience was rewarding. I was able to connect with and learn from professionals around the world who share common interests as myself. As a Finalist, I received a complimentary ticket to attend virtually AMBA & BGA Festival of Excellence 2021 where I was privy to several workshops over a two-day period.
- Would you recommend current students apply for the Case Study Competition? Why?
I most definitely would recommend current students to apply for the Case Study Competition. Competitions such as the BGA Future Leaders Case Competition gives students the opportunity to put into action the knowledge and skills they have developed into solving real-life business/organizational problems.
- What was your learning experience like at Lok Jack GSB?
My learning experience at Lok Jack GSB was outstanding. The mixture of theoretical learning and practical learning complimented each other well. I left Lok Jack GSB with the mind-set and confidence that I can take on any challenge and rise above.
- Do you have a favourite memory from your time at Lok Jack GSB?
My favourite memory at Lok Jack GSB was the class discussions. I always looked forward to the class discussions to hear the different point of views on issues affecting the world and the impact these issues can have on business/organization operations presently and in the future.
