Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo O.R.T.T.,
President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T. became the seventh President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on March 20, 2023.

Born on December 1, 1961, in San Fernando, Her Excellency is the fifth of seven children of Carlyle and Barbara Kangaloo. Her Excellency attended Grant Memorial Presbyterian Primary School and St. Joseph’s Convent, San Fernando. She graduated with Honours in Law from the University of the West Indies in 1983 and obtained her Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School in 1985, the same year she was admitted to practice law.

Having qualified as a practicing attorney, Her Excellency worked in her father’s law practice from 1985 to 1992, and briefly again between 1996 to 1998. Her Excellency also worked at an established law firm in San Fernando between 1988 to 2005. With the exception of those two (2) experiences in the private sector, Her Excellency’s working life has been all about public service.

The Honourable Jearlean John is a powerhouse of transformational leadership with over 30 years of distinguished service across the public and private sectors. A Chartered Accountant and holder of a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), Minister John is widely respected for her strategic mindset, fearless decision-making, and unwavering dedication to people-centred development.

Currently serving as the Minister of Works and Infrastructure and Member of Parliament for Couva North, she is spearheading national efforts to modernise Trinidad and Tobago’s infrastructure with a bold focus on innovation, resilience, and inclusive growth. Her leadership is marked by clarity, courage, and conviction whether in the boardroom or on the ground with citizens.

Minister John has previously served in several Cabinet portfolios, including Minister of Transport and Minister of Tourism and Tobago Affairs. She has also held some of the most influential executive positions in the country, including Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Chairman of the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT), and Chief Executive Officer of the Pizza Boys Group. In each role, she has consistently broken barriers, especially in male-dominated industries, leading large-scale national projects with vision and impact.

Results driven leadership, strong governance, and a deep-rooted passion for community upliftment and national development define her career. Minister John is known not only for her accomplishments in housing, infrastructure, and economic empowerment but also for her ability to connect with people at every level of society. She is a dynamic speaker, a fierce advocate for equity, and a trailblazer for women in leadership.

The Honourable Jearlean John is more than a public servant she is a visionary leader, a role model to many, and a champion for sustainable progress in Trinidad and Tobago.

Karen Yip Chuck

Karen Yip Chuck is a wife and mother of two girls both of whom are working and pursuing tertiary education in the UK. She is a Group Vice President of Republic Financial Holdings Limited and Vice President of Republic Bank Limited with over 30 years experience. Karen has held many senior management positions with skillsets which include Leadership, Strategy, Banking Operations, Investments, Commercial Credit, Corporate and Investment Finance, Risk Management, Process Re-engineering, Project Management and Board Governance.

A certified Internal Auditor Karen holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Economics from the University of the West Indies, a Master of Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University of Edinburgh, U.K., and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Banking UK. She is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.

Presently Karen holds the position of Chairperson of the local and regional Republic Financial Holdings Limited and Republic Bank Limited boards. She contributes to the business landscape through the Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce where she joined as a director in 2016 and now sits as Vice President at the Executive Committee. She is a Director on the Board United Way Trinidad and Tobago and holds the position of Chancellor’s Nominee on the UWI Campus Council. Kathleen Galy

Kathleen Galy is a strategic and transformational financial services executive with a proven track record of leveraging strong business acumen, operational excellence, and market understanding to drive revenue growth, expand market share, and increase economic value. With a career spanning over two decades in the financial services industry, Kathleen has demonstrated success in developing and executing differentiating solutions that streamline operations, resolve complex business challenges, and strengthen competitive positioning.

As the former Managing Director of ANSA Bank Limited, under Kathleen’s leadership, the bank experienced significant growth in its lending portfolio, market share, and operational efficiency. The bank successfully implemented eight new platforms and a re-brand during her tenure, winning four International Awards for the work done by her and the team.

Throughout Kathleen Galy’s career, a focus on operational excellence, customer-centric strategies, and team leadership has been paramount. Kathleen has a strong track record of improving employee engagement, customer satisfaction, and overall business performance through transparent and authentic leadership. In addition to Kathleen’s executive roles, she has served as a director on seven different Boards since 2008, demonstrating a commitment to industry leadership and strategic governance. Mrs. Shullette Cox assumed the role of President of Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) in February 2023. With over 20 years of experience at JAMPRO, Mrs. Cox’s visionary leadership and unwavering dedication underpin JAMPRO’s mission to promote and facilitate exports, investments and linkages to foster Jamaica’s economic growth.

In addition to leading the country’s promotional programmes for export and investment across multiple sectors, Mrs. Cox also leads transformative national programmes including the National Competitiveness Council (NCC), the Jamaica Nation Brand initiative, and the Jamaica Business Gateway (JBG)—all focused on enhancing Jamaica’s efficiency and positioning in the global competitive landscape. Previously, she also led the development of the country’s first National Investment Policy and several initiatives to drive the reform of Government and make it easier to do business in Jamaica. In addition, she has extensive experience in policy advocacy, strategising to remove roadblocks to exports and investments, research and packaging of business opportunities, and coordination of partnerships between the public and private sectors to drive improved business outcomes.

She holds a Masters’ of Arts in Development Economics and holds certification in change management and mediation, along with training in project management as well as finance and estate planning. She serves on boards of the Jamaica Special Economic Zone Authority (JSEZA), the Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA), and the Jamaica International Financial Services Authority (JIFSA), where her strategic insights continue to shape Jamaica’s economic landscape.
