Trinidad & Tobago’s Public Procurement and Disposal of Property Act No. 1 of 2015 was enacted and came into effect on July 31, 2018. One of its key objectives is to support the growth of local industry, encourage sustainable procurement practices, and promote sustainable development in the procurement and disposal of public assets. The Act defines sustainable procurement as a process through which public entities fulfill their requirements for goods, services, or works while ensuring long-term value for money. This approach aims to provide lasting benefits not only to the procuring entity but also to the broader economy and society.
The OPR’s Sustainable Procurement Guidelines emphasize integrating environmental sustainability into procurement, conducting market research, documenting sustainability in plans, evaluating processes, managing contracts, and sharing best practices.
