Dr. Wynette Harewood and Janet Peters, Faculty members of The Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business, worked on a project for CAISO, Equal Opportunity Commission and the British High Commission of Trinidad and Tobago, to prepare a Model LGBTI+ Workplace Policy for Trinidad and Tobago.
The project started in 2019, with the aim to assist Trinidad and Tobago firms in their efforts towards workplace Diversity and Inclusion. It provides a model policy which can be adapted or adopted by organisations. The Model LGBTI+ Workplace Policy was launched on June 30th, 2021, via webinar.
CAISO’s website states: “Besides being good for business, making Trinidad and Tobago’s workplaces equal is also an ethical question for many, a simple matter of fairness. some employers and associations seek to champion workplace equality in their fields. Every union in Trinidad and Tobago may have LGBTI+ members, but most are unaware of their concerns or the measures they could be negotiating for in collective agreements, so both employers and unions leave value on the table.”
Human Resource professionals can access the model LGBTI+ Workplace Policy by download it from CAISO’s website: LGBTI Workplace Policy | CAISO: Sex and Gender Justice (caisott.org)
